The Flutec® Fluids are true perfluorocarbons (they contain only carbon
and fluorine) manufactured to high specification. As a class, the perfluorocarbons have an
unusual combination of properties, which has led to their use in a diverse range of applications.
These include:
- Thermally stable (to about 450o)
- Chemically stable
- Excellent materials compatibility
- Essentially non-toxic
- Non-flammable
- Colourless, odourless
- High gas solubility
Flutec® Tracers can be detected at parts per quadrillion levels,
and the background atmospheric concentrations of Flutec® Tracers
are negligible. There are fourteen
Flutec® Tracers in the range, with boiling points between
45oC and 215oC which allow multi-tracer experiments
to be performed. Flutec® Tracers
can be deployed, sampled and analysed with the same instrumentation
simultaneously.

The Flutec® PC fluids are a range of high purity
perfluorocarbons. They are lipophobic and hydrophobic, forming
a third phase, facilitating
emulsion formulation. They have a variety of properties
that makes
them a superb additive to cosmetic formulations. Flutec® PC6
(INCI Name - Perfluorodecalin) is the material of choice
for many applications,
though it is but one of a range of compounds available.

Due to their remarkably low toxicity and their ability to dissolve
gases, especially oxygen and carbon dioxide, perfluorocarbon fluids
have generated a lot of interest for medical applications
such as:
- Medical diagnostics
- Ophthalmology
- Blood substitutes
- Wound healing
- Drug delivery systems
- Liquid ventilation
- Organ & tissue preservation
Conformance to cGMP can also be accommodated

Octafluoropropane also known as perfluoropropane,
Flutec® PP30 and R218 has application in refrigerant
blends as a CFC replacement. It has zero ozone-depleting potential.

Flutec® Fluids have very high electrical resistance (typically 1015 Ωm)
and very high dielectric strength (typically 20 kV/mm @ 50 Hz). Together with Very low surface tension,
Low viscosity and No residue on evaporation, this makes them ideal in applicatins such as:
- Vapour phase soldering
- Hermeticity/gross leak detection
- Liquid burn-in
- Thermal Shock Testing
- Heat transfer
- Dielectric (insulating) fluids
- Deposition solvent
- Direct contact cooling

Octafluoropropane (perfluoropropane or Flutec® PP30)
in a plasma with oxygen will effectively remove chemical deposits of
silicon wafers. Octafluoropropane is comparable with hexafluoroethane,
but with less gas usage.
